I think my professor is rating himself

There's an abnormally large amount of good ratings under his profile (nobody has many good things to say about him) and a lot of those comments echo things he says about himself in class. English is not his first language, and the comments appear to match his speaking style. I'm the admin for my school, but I have no way of telling where the comments are coming from, and I have no idea what to do next. Help!

One thing that may help is, according to RMP guidelines, raters are only allowed to rate a professor once per course. So, find the ratings and flag them under "repeat rating". Once the regional admin gets around to it, that person should be able to at least identify that the ratings have the same SIP (?) #. While this won't completely solve the problem of the professor rating himself, it will at least eliminate many of the ratings that he may be writing to boost his overall quality.

Professors do know about this site. So, crazy, desperate ones may come on here to talk themselves up for enrollment purposes.

Hi D-day,

So interesting that you brought this topic up. I don't understand why would a professor rate him/her self in this site.

Anyhow, that's interesting to know.

Best,

Jefery

I don't believe that you can rate a professor more than once, even if you have taken him for more than one course. Isn't there an automatic screening system that deletes any duplicate postings for the same professor from the same computer?

I think there is. These ratings first popped up several months ago, but I simply considered it to be a coincidence because of that system. Now I'm thinking otherwise.

That would be nice if there was. Unfortunately, it has to be done manually by either the admin or through flagging the rating if someone suspects that it might be a repeat.

(In reply to Flavia753)We Regionnal Co-Ordinators can check the listings if you flag it for us. That would make it easier. Tell us your suspicions and we will look into it. I hope this answers your questions.

Oh I know the professors rate them selves on here. there is a website called Chronicles of higher learning.com. One of my professors admitted to rating himself! He had talk to me about posting a comment on this site...then come to find out it was another professor! He said that information only heard at staff meetings was given away here..so he had alerted the university this guy was flaming other professors on this site.
Yeah gee.. but did I get to ever recover from that stupid mistake!
He said the professor just listened to what other students were saying plus remarks made in meetings and threw them up on the site...so why witch hunt through the students to begin with?

This guy is starting to flag any ratings that might be the slightest bit negative about him. Geez dude, get a backbone!

Unfortunately, he has to have a valid reason according to RMP guidelines. For example: profanity, bias, sexual orientation, illegal activities, something that identifies the rater, written in another language, or something that claims the professor is rating himself/herself.

Trouble is, the ratings he's flagging are nothing like that.

(In reply to D-Day)Trust me, you probably don't want to know. Students say bad things about teachers and it is their problem. When a teacher does those sort of things, rating theirself or giving theirselves good comments, it is comical. Its comical because they are working this website the same way a student would. No body believes everything at RMP. If someone believes everthing they read thats their bad. Imagine trying to believe everything. Would you believe everything that is writtin or said anywhere? Would you believe "Read my lips, no new taxes?" I didn't and I was young then.
